What Is Your Hair Type?

412

Everyday you see people with all color and style of hair. But did you know that you have a hair type? Yes! Not all hair has been created the same.

Lets start with the basic structure of hair:

1) Hair grows from the follicle, which is long and bulbous. If you were to pull out a strand of hair you would see the bulge at the tip of the hair. The cells at the base of the follicle divide rapidly and is where you get your hair growth.

2) Each strand of hair consists of three layers, the first being the innermost layer called the medulla. This is only present though in thick hair though.

3) The middle layer is known as the cortex. This layer provides the strength, color and texture of your hair.

4) The outer most layer is called the cuticle and this is what protects the cortex. It is completely colorless.

5) The entire strand of hair is made up of a protein called keratin. And that is hair!

There are 2 basic kinds of hair:

1) Terminal hair is the hair that grows thick and long and is found on the head, armpits, pubic hair face and chest. (Face and chest on men)

2) Vellus hair is soft short hair that you will find over the rest of your body.

The type of hair you have seems to have to do with geography.

1) If you are of Asian descent, then the hair strands are round and thicker than all other types of hair. With the exception of the red head who has the thickest hair of all.

2) If you are of European descent with blonde or dark hair, then your hair strands are thinner. The strands are round to oval shaped.

3) If you are of African descent, then the hair strands are flat and that is the reason for the frizziness and curl.

It’s interesting to see when you get a mix of Asian genes with African genes or Caucasian with African. I am a white girl with blonde, curly frizzy hair. My parents came from Holland where there is a high concentration of people with African descent. So it’s not hard to see where I got my hair type, which I personally love. It’s a Hair Factor

So you can now figure out why your hair is the way it is. You just need to do a bit of research into your family tree and there you’ll have it.

Enjoy!

Male Hair Loss

Hair loss strikes 1 in 3 males by the age of 50. Male hair loss, while not considered a disease, negatively affects men’s self-image and confidence.

Male hair loss affects 1 in 3 males by the age of 50. While there is currently no cure for hair loss, there are many hair loss products on the market purporting to remedy male hair loss and thinning hair. Not all potential hair loss products are created equal. Some hair loss products are designed to only cover up the signs of hair loss, such as wigs, toupees, and hair dyes. Other hair loss treatments lack scientific background for their claims to treat hair loss. Because hair loss is an emotional event for most men, much time and money is spent searching for a hair loss solution in the form of hair loss medications, cover-ups, and transplants.

Male Hair Loss Treatment: Prescription Hair Loss Medication

Male hair loss is generally regarded as natural, and not a disease. Nevertheless, many men choose to pursue the use of prescription medications as a hair loss treatment. The most popular of these prescription hair loss medications is Propecia. Propecia is the brand name of finasteride, a chemical that partially blocks the effects of male hormones that are thought to contribute to male hair loss.

While Propecia has shown some effectiveness as a hair loss treatment, it is not a natural solution to male hair loss. It requires a physician’s visit for a prescription, and has sexual side effects in some users. Its effects wear off immediately upon discontinuing use, resulting in further hair loss. A one month supply of Propecia costs approximately $70-$100, making it one of the more expensive hair loss treatments on the market.

By contrast, Procerin for male hair loss is available without a prescription. It is a natural hair loss product, with no dangerous chemicals or side effects. Procerin is a safe alternative to prescription hair loss treatments. Procerin is the only all-natural hair loss solution backed by our 90-Day Guarantee.

DHT Blocker – Natural Ways

DHT Blocker supplements have to be taken on a regular basis twice a day as a preventive measure, though the kind of DHT blocker supplement depends on the cause of the high level of DHT in the body.

DHT is now widely believed to be the devil behind the problem of hair loss. Over ninety five percent of hair loss cases are the cause of DHT and so the main course of action in treating DHT is to stop it by using a (http://www.dhtblocker.net/dht-blocker-natural.html) natural DHT blocker.

There are many ways to accomplish blocking of DHT and these include keeping DHT from attaching to the receptors of the hair follicles, reducing the production of DHT in the first place, inhibiting the production of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase, the main cause for the existence of DHT or reduce the substance that produces the enzyme 5 alpha reductase – cholesterol. A (http://www.dhtblocker.net/) DHT blocker is any substance that can produce any of the conditions mentioned here. Once DHT is effectively blocked the remaining hair follicles will be able to convalesce and begin to grow healthy hair once again.

Nature: The best Physician

The best natural DHT blocker is zinc. Zinc is freely available in nature and natural foods rich in zinc will help in blocking DHT naturally. The other products are Saw palmetto. In-depth research of this natural DHT blocker reveal that Saw palmetto is a very effective natural DHT blocker and acts very similarly to Propecia by firstly lowering the DHT in the body by effectively blocking the 5 alpha-reductase and then by blocking the receptor sites on cell membranes that absorb DHT. This is by far the most convenient way to block DHT naturally. DHT also contributes to other diseases of the body such as prostrate cancer. So, (http://www.procerin.com/) hair loss is not the only problem brought on by DHT in the body. All of the studies that have been performed to date show that Saw palmetto is an effective antiandrogen and has shown conclusively to be effective in the treatment of benign prostratic disease as well as killing off of the hair follicles in the body. Saw palmetto is a very potent natural DHT blocker.

Another natural DHT blocker is Pygeum extract that inhibit the production of DHT in the body. Pygeum has been proven to have ingredients that effectively reduce prolacting levels and block the accumulation of cholesterol in the prostate glands. Prolactin is also believed to increase the uptake of testosterone by the prostate, and cholesterol increases binding sites for DHT. Pygeum basically reduces the levels of DHT in the blood and reduces the number of sites where DHT can attach thus is also a very effective way to naturally reduce DHT levels. Pay a visit to www.procerin.com and get first hand information on all the ways to reduce DHT levels naturally. You will emerge all the wiser and ready to face the problem better when next you confer with your doctor.

Hair Loss Gets In The Way Of Having Picture-Perfect Tresses

Much has been said about hair being a person’s crowning glory. You’ve probably noticed how every single shampoo and conditioner commercial emphasizes (and most of the time, over-emphasizes) the need to have long and silky tresses (for the women) and healthy and fuzz-free hair (for the gentlemen). In the metro, there’s also a burgeoning of parlors and salons offering a variety of hair care services to cater to the hair whims of every customer. But the reality is that, not everyone is blessed with picture-perfect mane. Men and women have to deal with hair woes such as dry and oily hair, dandruff, split ends, and hair loss. Since premature loss of hair is hereditary, some people have to face the brutal fact that they would be bald sooner, not later, than they expect. It’s an amazing thing to know that several kinds of hair loss treatment are now up for grabs in the market.

According to experts in the field of hair care, women should note that men are not the only ones who have the tendency to experience and suffer hair loss condition. It only seems men are more prone to having partial or complete balding but this doesn’t mean women are safe. If a person is starting to notice excessive hair fall and bald spots, he or she should immediately consult his or her doctor. Although a person doesn’t have any history of premature loss of hair in the family, he or she can get bald as a side effect of a particular drug. Aside from medication and genes, one can experience premature loss of hair because of an existing disease or illness such as cancer.

Nowadays, hair loss treatments may come in the form of pomade or surgical enhancement. He or she can choose among different brands or methods according to his or her budget and preference.

How do surgical or non-surgical treatments actually fight a person’s biological tendency to lose excessive amount or hair? Manufacturers behind most kinds of hair loss treatment like growth stimulators, super oxide dismutase and anti-antrogens explain that these services or products generally stimulate hair follicles to ensure production of healthier and stronger hair strands. But the more effective treatment is DHT inhibitors which prevent 5-Alpha Reductase and testosterone from teaming up and thus, resulting in noticeably less hair fall. Though hair loss is an inevitable reality for some, one can do something to prevent and fight it.

Vitamins For Female Hair Loss Prevention

In today’s image conscious society, physical appearance is more important than ever to a woman’s self-esteem. Imagine the heartache caused when a woman notices her hair thinning? It is estimated that over 25 million women experience thinning hair in the United States. Many are genetically predisposed to the condition. Most wonder if there are any natural remedies to help or prevent their female hair loss.

Several vitamins have been found to be very effective in supporting female hair health. Of course, many factors may contribute to female hair loss but proper nutrition can help prevent further thinning and more loss.

Vitamin A has been found to support the healthy development of tissues and cells in the body and also supports healthy hair. This important vitamin promotes healthy hair follicles by keeping the root of the hair lubricated. Vitamin A can be found in green vegetables, particularly the leafy ones, red, orange and yellow vegetables, liver and eggs. Many good multivitamins contain the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A, so don’t take additional supplements without a physician’s supervision. Overdoses of vitamin A can be dangerous.

A healthy scalp is also essential to healthy hair. Vitamin E supports a healthy scalp by helping to increase the oxygen supplied through the blood. Americans rarely suffer from a vitamin E deficiency, but increasing one’s intake of green leafy vegetables, fortified grains and cereals and nuts can help ensure that this important nutrient is adequate. Vitamin E supplements are also available for this matter.

The B vitamins are also important for hair health. Regulating the amount of iron in the blood, these vitamins also help oxygen flow through the lungs to the tissues. Of course, a B vitamin deficiency would damage the hair and scalp by limiting the amount of oxygen that these tissues receive. B vitamins are available as supplements and in several foods, including proteins and soybeans, cereals, nuts and wheat germ.

If a proper nutrition that involves essential vitamins and minerals helps in hair loss prevention and a good healthy scalp, then paying extra attention to the food and supplements that you eat is well worth the time and effort!

Defying Hair Loss at Any Age
Let’s face it, hair loss is not a welcome change at any age. With more than 70 percent of men experiencing male pattern baldness at some point in their lives, many of them seek a remedy.

Hair loss treatments come in many varieties, but only a few work. Possibly the most reliable and permanent solution to this problem is hair transplantation – a minor surgical procedure done under local anesthesia.

Regardless of a man’s age or amount of baldness, the latest techniques in hair transplantation can provide what hair loss sufferers want the most – a confident, more youthful appearance.

Bill Wellington, an 83-year-old retired CIA economist and Army Air Force Pilot originally from Detroit, first started noticing his hair loss at 14 or 15. In college, he secretly studied hair loss on his own and even talked to a hair consultant, hoping to find a remedy. Despite these attempts, he continued to lose his hair.

One college hockey teammate remarked that Wellington refused to wet his hair in the shower for fear of losing it.

” I always carried that element of personal insecurity that surfaced when I prepared for work or showered after hockey. It was the receding hair line,” Wellington said.

When he fought in World War II, he used his helmet and cap to conceal his problem, but it stayed on his mind. Years later, after he left the Army and had a successful career and a loving family, his hair loss continued to bother him.

The biggest problem, he says, was his loss of self confidence which stemmed from his baldness. For instance, while taking a family photo, his children commented, “Hey Dad, you’re really getting bald.”

“The old comic reply, ‘hair today, gone tomorrow’ got a chuckle but did little to bolster my ego,” Wellington said.

After attending a free seminar on hair transplantation, he decided to get treatment from the doctors at Elliott & True, a medical practice specializing in hair transplantation, and he has been satisfied ever since. He still plays organized hockey for a Maryland seniors team called the Geri-Hatricks, which he named. He says younger players always compliment his healthy-looking hair.

At the office of doctors Robert H. True and Robert J. Dorin, patients from 25 to 80 get their own natural, growing hair back thanks to the latest hair transplant technology.

“The results are quite impressive nowadays, and they seem to have the same positive effect on a patient’s well-being, regardless of his age,” True said .

DHT Blocker Supplements

DHT Blocker Supplements, Herbal Supplements, Best DHT Blocker, DHT Blocker, Procerin.
People read articles and ads of hair loss supplements in almost every publication everyday. These are herbal supplements and steroid based hair loss supplement but do these Hair Loss supplements really work? Most of the hair loss is caused by DHT or Dihydrotestosterone. This is a naturally occurring enzyme, and one of the most potent ones in the human body, and is produced by the reaction of an enzyme called 5 alpha-reductase with the hormone testosterone; this DHT is the main cause of thinning of hair which finally leads to hair loss in men and women.

When DHT id formed by the 5 alpha-reductase enzyme reacts with testosterone in the fair follicles the DHT thus formed attaches itself to the receptor cells of the air follicle thus stifling the growth of the hair. This finally leads to loss of hair because the DHT finally kills the hair follicle. Luckily for many this condition can be reversed or rather prevented by taking DHT Blocker Supplements that stop or block DHT formation in the body. These can be herbal supplements or laboratory prepared steroids with the ability to stop the effects of DHT and finally assist the re growth of hair in men between the ages of eighteen and forty. However, whatever the DHT blocker supplements one is advised to take them only in consultancy with a qualified medical practitioner as some of the DHT blocker supplements have serious side effects.

How long does one wait to see results?

DHT Blocker supplements have to be taken on a regular basis twice a day as a preventive measure, though the kind of DHT blocker supplement depends on the cause of the high level of DHT in the body. The results of DHT blocker supplements can be seen in the first week of taking the DHT blocker supplements. The improvements continue over the next six or eight weeks. One pack of DHT Blocker supplements lasts for a month though you will find some good advice and offers on Procerin.

Some of the better known DHT blocker supplements are Saw Palmetto or Serenoa repens. The berries of these naturally available DHT blocker supplements contain certain fatty acids and sterols that effectively block 5-Alpha-Reductase and reduce DHT uptake by hair follicles thus preventing hair loss very effectively. The other DHT blocker supplements are Boarage oil, Stinging nettle or Urtica diocia and Green tea as well as grape seed extract. There has been a great deal of progress in the field of hair replacement and restoration in the past few years. Surgical techniques have improved greatly from the days when hair replacement first began. All hair replacement techniques involve the use of your own hair; therefore, hair replacement candidates must have some healthy hair, usually at the back and sides of the head. The process is a relatively safe procedure when performed by a qualified surgeon, however as with any surgery there are risks. Candidates must be checked for uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood-clotting problems, or skin that scars excessively, as these conditions may make healing difficult. Small pieces of hair growing scalp grafts are removed from areas of the scalp with healthy hair and are placed where hair is thinning. There are three major types of grafts: punch grafts, mini-grafts, and micro-grafts. Punch grafting takes about 10-15 hairs and places them in the scalp. This was the first type of technique to be developed, and when first developed caused a patchy look in many candidates. The technique has been improved since the first days of being developed, and the new mini-graft technique has also been added as an option. Mini-grafts contain only 2-4 hairs per graft, and therefore look much more natural. Micro-grafts are still smaller grafts that contain one to two hairs each. To maintain healthy circulation of the scalp, grafts are placed 1/8th of an inch apart. Local anesthesia is usually sufficient for these procedures, and several procedures are usually required to achieve the desired result. Post-surgery, a period of approximately 10 days of no sexual or strenuous activity is recommended, as strenuous activity may cause bleeding from the graft areas.

Of course surgery is a serious option, and often an expensive one as well. For those not wishing to undergo surgery for either reason, the option of non-surgical hair additions is often explored. Many professionals have developed techniques to add hair to existing hair on your scalp that look very natural. Weaves, fusions, bonding, cabling and micro linking are some of the techniques used to bond hair to the existing hair or scalp non-surgically.

Many jokes were made in the past about wigs and toupees, and they have gained an unfavorable light amongst many people because they were so obvious on the wearer. Today’s toupees and wigs are often made of real hair and are very well styled, causing them to look ore natural on the wearer. These hairpieces are held in place by affixing adhesive to the scalp and stay in place through vigorous exercise. Of course you will need to seek a professionally made toupee in order to make it worth your while, and you should purchase at least two so that you can maintain them properly, servicing one while wearing the other. A professionally styled and fitted toupee is expected to cost upward of $600 to $1000 in today’s market. Of course no one wants to go through the embarrassment of wearing the obvious “rug?on top of your head, so if you are not willing to spend the money it takes to purchase a professional toupee then it is probably best to not wear any hairpiece at all.

Structured hairpieces as they are called are a semi-surgical approach that permanently attaches hair to the scalp by stitching the hair to the bald scalp. This procedure is not recommended, as it is a process that involves introducing a foreign material to the scalp. Most ethical surgeons do not perform this procedure any longer as they are generally deemed to be ethically inappropriate. If this procedure is recommended to you, get a second opinion from a trusted physician.

A much safer procedure is hair weaving, yet this can only be used if hair is thinning and large balding areas are not present. The process is also called hair intensification or hair integration. Strands of synthetic or real hair are braided or weaved into your own existing hair giving an appearance of a full head of hair. This procedure does have its drawbacks, because it can make the scalp difficult to access, interfering with proper hair and scalp maintenance necessary for the health of your remaining natural hair, and this method can also stress existing hair since the artificial hair introduced through weaving is attached to it. This method is usually expensive, costing several thousand dollars per application, and being that because of the aforementioned drawbacks it can only be left in for a few weeks at a time it is usually impractical for the average person.

It is highly recommended that one seek professional assistance with these procedures from licensed beauticians or barbers, and have a patch test done to the skin if using adhesives to test for skin sensitivities. Extra care must be taken to maintain cleanliness of the hair and scalp when wearing added hair in order to maintain the health of existing hair and the scalp in general. Of course, if you are undergoing chemotherapy or are in the early stages of diagnosed alopecia areata then these procedures should be avoided as the hair they are connected to is likely to fall out as well. Either waiting for a period of time or obtaining a full prosthesis is recommended in these cases.

Yet still there is another type of treatment which is a spray of micro fibers made up of the same substance that hair is made of: keratin. If your hair is simply thinning, while you are investigating a more permanent solution to your hair loss problems or in the process of employing a particular process that takes some time, you can use these substances to cosmetically produce the appearance of thicker and fuller hair. The substance is marketed under several different names, one such being Topik? Being a temporary solution it is relatively inexpensive, and can provide some immediate aesthetic results to bolster confidence and optimism as you work on more permanent solutions.

Top Nutritional Tips to Support Healthy Hair Growth

437

This article suggests five top tips to encourage healthy hair growth.
hair loss, alopecia, baldness
1. Eat adequate amounts of protein.

Protein is composed of the amino acids essential for the building of new cells, including hair. Five amino acids are of particular relevance to hair growth – cystine, cysteine, methionine, arginine and lysine.

Inadequate protein intake over a lengthy period can force hair into the resting phase with shedding a few months later. It is obvious then that sufficient portions of protein rich foods should form part of your daily diet. The best sources of dietary protein are lean meats, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, soy, nuts, grains and seeds. At least 15% of your daily calories should come from protein-rich foods.

2. Eat adequate amounts of useful carbohydrates.

Carbs are an essential source of energy and help in the growth of body tissues, including hair. They are an important source of the B vitamins that are vital to healthy hair.

It is important that you concentrate on consuming non-refined carbs rather than the sugars and white flour that are so prevalent in many over-refined carb products. You should place an emphasis on consuming vegetables, fruits, whole grains, brown rice and potatoes. It is recommended that you obtain 55-60% of your daily calories from the carbohydrates found in these foods.

3. Achieve a healthy balance of dietary fats.

Fat is used in energy production and can be found in both animal and plant foods. Your body needs sufficient levels of fat to maintain good health. That fat should be obtained from a mixture of lean animal and plant sources. Roughly 25-30% of your daily calories should come from these sources.

4. The right nutritional balance is one that suits your personal circumstances.

How much of each food group you eat depends on a host of factors including age, sex, health and level of physical activity. When choosing meals and snacks, take account of the following key principles of sound nutrition:

- Eat a variety of foods.

- Apply moderation to your consumption of junk foods.

- Choose natural and lightly processed foods as often as possible.

- Do not over cook.

5. Support a nutritious diet with a few carefully chosen supplements.

Following a nutritious diet is essential for good hair health, but on its own this may not be sufficient for a number of reasons:

- Modern farming methods may deplete the nutrient quality of food.

- High stress levels may diminish nutrients in your body.

- Dieting may affect nutrient levels.

- Aging reduces the ability of our bodies to utilize certain nutrients.

- Exercise can deplete some nutrients.

It may be sufficient to supplement with a well-balanced multi-vitamin / mineral product but a number of products are available that specifically cater for the requirements of healthy hair.

Is their a miracle cure for hairloss?

There comes a time in every man’s life when he starts to lose his hair
bald, hairloss, hair
There comes a time in every man’s life when he starts to lose his hair. For some, it can be as early as their twenties or even their teens, while others don’t start to lose any hair at all until their forties or fifties. As it is so widely seen as a sign of old age, however, there is a big social stigma attached to hair loss, which leads people to seek various treatments to get their hair back again.

Hair loss is not always caused by old age, however, as many diseases can also cause people to lose their hair. Although cancer is the most well-known, it is not uncommon to lose some hair after quite minor diseases, or after having surgery. Hair loss is also a side effect of some medicines, such as antidepressants.

So is there a miracle cure for hair loss? Well, not really.

The most common treatments that people try are the creams available in most pharmacies, such as Rogaine. They do cause some extra hair growth, but also tend to make your head very itchy in the process. However, as soon as you stop using it, the hair loss will resume, so keeping your hair could turn out to be very expensive for you.

A cheaper option could be pills like propecia, which has also been proven to work, although only in about half of patients. It must, however, also be taken for the rest of your life if you want to keep your hair until you die.

Hair loss can often also be stopped by simply making some changes in your lifestyle, like eating less fat and trying to avoid stressful situations. In many cases, this is the most effective treatment of all, as so much hair loss is brought on entirely by work-related stress: it’s well worth taking a week off and seeing if you still have the problem after that.

Above all, if you’re trying to treat your baldness, remember the three Ps: patience, proven treatments, and taking pictures.
